Circuit of the Chapels

This scenic trail consists of ten stages connected to the life of Saint Giovanni Gualberto, the founder of the Vallombrosan order. It's a characteristic way to explore the Vallombrosa forest that surrounds our cozy hotel.

The starting point is directly from the Hotel Rifugio La Foresta. The route will lead you through woodland trails, offering views of the most evocative Chapels, and for a brief stretch, on an asphalt road. En route to the Chapel of San Torello, you'll discover the Holy Staircase, the Chapel of the Columns, and the Boulder of Saint Giovanni Gualberto.

The journey continues towards Paradisino, once a hermitage for monks. From here, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of Vallombrosa's meadow and Hotel Rifugio La Foresta. Don't miss the plaque commemorating the visit of the English poet John Milton to Vallombrosa.

The path will then guide you towards the abbey, with a detour to the Chapel of the Holy Beech Tree. Immerse yourself in the legend of Saint Giovanni Gualberto, whose miracle in 1036 marked the beginning of the Vallombrosan order.
